About 1099TaxEstimator

Built for the 70 million Americans who earn income as 1099 contractors and freelancers.

Our Mission

Tax season is stressful enough without digging through IRS publications. 1099TaxEstimator gives independent contractors a fast, free, private way to estimate their tax bill so you can plan ahead and never be surprised on April 15.

Who Built This

1099TaxEstimator is built and maintained by Rahul B., a software developer. I started this after getting frustrated that most "free" 1099 calculators use lazy flat tax rates and hand you the wrong number — so I built one on the actual 2026 IRS brackets and each state's real progressive rates, and I update it every tax year.

I'm not a CPA, and this isn't tax advice — it's a planning tool. What I can promise is that the math follows the official IRS and state figures, every source is cited below, and if you ever spot a number that looks off, tell me and I'll verify it against the source.

What the Calculator Does

Enter your gross 1099 income, deductible expenses, filing status, and state. The calculator instantly computes self-employment tax (15.3%), federal income tax, state income tax for all 50 states + DC, quarterly estimated payments, take-home pay, and your effective rate.

Privacy First

All calculations happen entirely in your browser. We never transmit, store, or sell any income data. No account, no email, no financial tracking cookies. See our Privacy Policy.

Methodology & Data Sources

Every figure on this site comes from a single 2026 tax engine, applied consistently to the calculator, the worked examples, and the state comparison tables:

The engine intentionally excludes the QBI deduction, credits, and retirement deductions, so real bills are often lower than our estimates — we prefer you over-save rather than under-save. Engine last updated July 2, 2026. Spotted an error? Tell us and we'll verify against the official source.
